8th Grade Contract

It is hard to believe that we are already thinking about the end of the school year, but it will be here before we know it!  As we approach this busy and exciting time of the year, we want our students to remain motivated and focused on the work ahead.  At Lake Ridge Middle School, we believe strongly that positive behaviors are to be recognized and that students should clearly understand the expectations required to receive positive rewards and incentives. To this end, we have developed an 8th Grade Contract in order to define for our 8th grade students how they can earn their participation in the end of year activities and 8th grade dance.  We are excited to honor the hard work and positive behavior of all students who meet the expectations outlined in the contract.   The contracts will be given to students on Wednesday, April 6th and once the contract has been signed by both the student and a parent/guardian, it should be returned to the student’s advisory teacher.  Contracts are due no later than Monday, April 11th.  Again, we look forward to celebrating our awesome 8th grade students’ successes as we conclude the 2015-2016 school year.

Electronics & SOL Testing Policy

During any SOL testing sessions between now and June 16th,
LRMS will implement the following rules regarding students' use of electronic devices, as well as the consequences that accompany violations of those rules.

Cell phones are specifically prohibited from being present in the SOL testing sites. All students will be required to leave any cell phone, tablet, Apple Watch, etc., in their locker during the duration of their SOL test. We strongly encourage all students to leave these items at home on the days they are scheduled to take an SOL test.

Any use of a non-approved electronic device by a student at any point during a Standards of Learning (SOL) test session is considered a disruption.  In the event a student uses a non-approved electronic device at any point during a test session, that student will receive a score of "0" for the test and not be allowed to test again during the same test administration.  If after completing an investigation of the incident, PWCS staff determines that a student received and/or communicated any information about test content, that student's test status will be updated to "cheated".

Office 365 for Students

All students at LRMS have received instruction through their language arts classes regarding how to log in to their Office 365 accounts. To access their account, students may use the Outlook Web Access link on the left side navigation bar of the LRMS website and enter the log-in credentials provided during classroom instruction. If a student has forgotten their username or password, they may come to the library to fill out a Password Help Request. Students will then be given a temporary password to access the Password Self-Service application, also linked on the left side navigation bar of the LRMS website, which will allow them to reset their Office 365 password. The Password Self-Service application may only be accessed from a school-networked computer, so all password help requests must be handled here at school. If you have any questions about Office 365 or the Password Self-Service, you may visit the Microsoft Office 365 resources on the Instructional Technology page of the PWCS website or contact Ms. Del Gaudio, Instructional Technology Coach at LRMS.

Please click here for a letter from Dr. Walts regarding PWCS delayed opening and school closing information. You may also visit the PWCS Inclement Weather page for more information.
Cell Phone & Dress Code Reminders

Students should come to school dressed to learn. Shorts must be finger-tip length and all shirts must have a defined sleeve and be long enough to cover midriffs. If a child wears leggings or jeggings, the shirt must be finger-tip length. To help support our students, we will be reminding them the first three days of school. After we review the Code of Behavior on Wednesday, September 9th, if a student is dressed inappropriately, an administrator will have the student change into their P.E. uniform.

Cell phones should be off and out of sight while in the school building. The only exception to this would be if the cell phone is being used for instructional purposes and its use has been approved by the teacher. Cell phones must be out of sight until a student has exited the building. Confiscated cell phones must be retrieved by a parent or guardian.
