2 Tips for a GREAT Field Trip

Here are a few tips for a great 8th grade field trip to the Hilton Performing Arts Center on Monday, November 30th:

1) Dress Up

Traditionally, audiences dress nicely to attend live theatre events. A nice pair of slacks and a collared shirt for young gentlemen and dress pants or skirts for young ladies is entirely appropriate attire. A special event deserves a special outfit.

2) Leave the Phone Behind

It is a BIG breach of etiquette to use a cell phone at a live theatrical performance. In a movie theatre, your phone is only bothering other audience members. During live theatre, your phone is disrupting the performers who are working very hard to keep you entertained. It's bad form.

In keeping with Lake Ridge policy, any phone usage on the bus or in the theatre will result in having your phone confiscated. Your parents will have to come to the office and sign for it before it is returned to you. Do yourself a favor and leave your phone at home or in your locker for the day. You don't want to have your fun day ruined by having your phone confiscated because you were using it during a field trip.

Inclement Weather Policies & Procedures

With the cooler weather quickly approaching, now might be a good time to review the Prince William County Schools Inclement Weather policies and procedures. Please click here for a letter from Dr. Walts regarding PWCS delayed opening and school closing information. You may also visit the PWCS Inclement Weather page for more information.
Cell Phone & Dress Code Reminders

Students should come to school dressed to learn. Shorts must be finger-tip length and all shirts must have a defined sleeve and be long enough to cover midriffs. If a child wears leggings or jeggings, the shirt must be finger-tip length. To help support our students, we will be reminding them the first three days of school. After we review the Code of Behavior on Wednesday, September 9th, if a student is dressed inappropriately, an administrator will have the student change into their P.E. uniform.

Cell phones should be off and out of sight while in the school building. The only exception to this would be if the cell phone is being used for instructional purposes and its use has been approved by the teacher. Cell phones must be out of sight until a student has exited the building. Confiscated cell phones must be retrieved by a parent or guardian.
