Activities and Clubs
 
Ecology Club
Sponsor: Mrs. Cleary
Location: H-1
Time: 2nd and 4th Thursdays each month, 2:45-4:00pm
 
   The Ecology Club is designed to be hands on and will focus on providing members with opportunities for community service. The enrichment activities planned will cover many different aspects of ecology. Topics include recycling, ways to "Go Green", landscaping and water shed protection for the Occoquan and Chesapeake Bay. We will also continue landscaping the "Jewell Hardin Friendship Garden" located in the front of the school.
   Interested students may join in on the fun activities at any time during the school year as their schedules permit. Check the scheduled meetings on School Fusion for opportunities to participate in this enjoyable club. Pick up permission slips in H-1 to be signed by a parent or guardian prior to meeting time.
 
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
Sponsor: Mrs. Cleary
Location: H-1 and Cafeteria
Time: 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month from 2:45-4:00pm
 
   FCCLA is a co-curricular club with Family and Consumer Sciences and is open to ALL students. Members choose and plan the many activities to build Leaders of America for Healthy Families, Successful Careers and Strong Communities.
   FCCLA will sponsor the "Lucky Draw - Back to School Dance" on September 24th. LRMS students will be donating food, personal caare items and school supplies for A.C.T.S. Members may choose to be chefs at the dance.
 In October members will plan the activities for the 2009-2010 school year, focusing on “Wild 'bout Wellness” and community service opportunities. During the winter months F.C.C.L.A. will sponsor "Dew Drop Inn", an annual event to prepare and serve food for the needy in our county. Pick up permission slips in H-1 to be signed by a parent/guardian prior to meeting time.
   Many other leadership and service learning opportunities are available throughout the year. Interested 6th, 7th, and 8th graders may join in on the fun activities at any time during the year as their schedules permit. Listen for announcements and check out our bulletin boards in the cafeteria and the School Fusion web site for updated information.
 
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Time: Thursdays as annouonced from 2:45-4:00pm
 
 The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a student-run organization. Although the leadership team is Christian, you do NOT have to be a Christian to attend. We support all the “athletes” of the school. (Anyone who sweats is an athlete, so that’s everyone!) If you are a student, staff member, coach, or sports athlete, come join us. We do activities within the school and in the community. This year we will be sponsoring and organizing the LRMS Sports Banquets after each of our four sports seasons.
 
LaCrosse Club
Sponsor: Mr. Ferguson
Location: E-14 and the stone-dust field
Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:50 - 3:40pm  
   Sports Illustrated recently headlined lacrosse as "the fastest growing sport in America". At the high school level no other sport is taking off as fast, especially in Northern Virginia. So, whether you're trying the game for the first time, or want to brush up on your skills, the Lacrosse Club is for you. The club's emphasis is on sound fundamentals for boys and girls in a non-contact environment. Girls must have eye protection. Boys must have helmets. A limited number of helmets for boys are available. A sample eye guard and helmet are available in E-14. All players must have a current sports physical on file.
 
 
National Junior Honor Society
Sponsor: Mrs. Bevington
Location: B-6
Time: Meeting dates and places will vary. Listen to announcements for important information.
 
 The National Junior Honor Society was founded in 1929 for the purpose of recognizing academic achievement while developing the ideals of character, service, leadership, and citizenship.
 Honor Society members must earn a cumulative 7th or 8th grade academic average of 3.5, complete the application, receive an overall faculty rating of 3.0, and be approved by the faculty council and the principal.
 Students will be involved in the Thanksgiving Food Drive (Operation Turkey), the spring induction ceremony, fundraisers, and school service projects.
 
SCA
Sponsor: Ms. Deyerle
Location: B-2
Time: As Announced
 
 The SCA is the Student Cooperative Association which is the student government. Its function is to develop good attitudes of citizenship, to promote training for developing leadership, to initiate and maintain good school spirit and to promote the general welfare of the school.
 The student government will be comprised of representatives from each advisory and an elected Executive Board. They will meet during the school day or when called into special session.
 The SCA will sponsor different activities during the school year, include dances and "Fun Nights".

Tennis Club
Sponsor: Mr. Wilson
Location: Room G-7 and the tennis courts
Time: 3pm - 4:30pm in April and May 
   Anyone interseted in playing tennis and learning about the game is invited to join the Tennis Club. Our goals for the club are to learn the rules for tennis, get some exercise and have some fun and fellowship. All club members must have a sports physical on file in the main office dated after May 1, 2009. In addition, you will need a tennis racket and tennis shoes.
 
Wolf Spirit Club
Sponsor: Ms. Crosby
Location: I-1
Time: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 2:50 - 4:00
          Meetings begin September 29

This is a club that both students and school staff can benefit from. Our focus is on keeping our school community healthy by offering information and discussion on topics such as proper nutrition, healthy habits, exercise, positive relationships, money management, body image, and much more. The first half of the meeting will be discussion and we will end the meeting with some aerobic, Pilates, or strength training exercise. Healthy snacks will be offered at some meetings.
Wolves Wild About Wellness

Time: Thursdays after school
 
   Students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades are invited to join and help promote school spirit. During the school year, students will decorate posters for pep rallies, support athletes at sporting events and plan Spirit Week.

World Language Club
Sponsor: Mr. Garcia
Location: D-5
Time: 3rd Thursday of the month from 2:45 to 3:45pm
    Students taking a foreign language are eligible. This club meets once a month on every 3rd Thursday. Students will add to their knowledge of the cultures of French and Spanish speaking countries. This includes celebrating holidays, preparing special foods, craft projects, learning dances, and sharing customs and beliefs. Students will expand their horizons through the World Language Club.
 
 
Yearbook
Sponsor: Ms. vonBerniwitz
Location: J-4
Time: Thursday 2:45pm - 3:45pm
 
 The Lake Ridge Middle School yearbook, The Mohican, is the product of the yearbook staff's efforts over the entire school year. If you are a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who enjoys hard work with visible results, the yearbook club might be for you.
 The yearbook will be on sale in the fall with delivery in the late spring. Meeting dates for the staff may change as deadlines approach. Check your classroom calendar and listen to the announcements.
 
 
****ELIGIBILITY: Students who maintain appropriate achievement and conduct grades may participate in the various clubs, athletic teams, be a spectator, etc. during the school year. Students may not have more than one "U" in conduct and/or one "F" in achievement. Students who do not maintain the appropriate conduct and achievement grades are ineligible to participate from the report card distribution date until the next report card distribution date (nine weeks). This also includes trying out for various teams, attending PEP rallies, attending dances, etc.
 
****REDLINE: is the term used for students who accumulate six or more detentions and/or equivalent suspensions during the school year. Individuals who are placed on redline are ineligible to participate (see above) for a period of 20 school days with NO infractions. Any additional detentions or more serious infractions extend the period for an additional 20 days.
 
****Students may not participate in any after school activities on the day of an absence from school. Students must be present at least one-half day to participate in any after school activity.
